Registration in Russia for foreigners during FIFA 2018

What is it, why is it important and how it should be done
In May 2018 a new regulation was issued. Foreigners will be required to register at their place of stay within 3 calendar days upon their arrival to the country in the cities hosting the World Cup (Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saransk and Sochi).

You need to register in each city separately if you stay there more than 72 hours! This rule came into force on the 25th of May and will be effective until the 25th of July.

Registration must be done by the host - hotel or apartment manager, or your friend or family if you are staying in a private home. We strongly recommend finding out before the arrival whether your host will be able to provide registration. Although both foreign nationals and their host are liable for violation of registration rules, landlords often decline to register their guests.

What happens if you don't have registration?

- The police can stop you anywhere and ask for your registration
- An absence of registration may cause significant penalties or even a ban for next entries to Russia.

But, according to the inner regulations everyone could also be registered on behalf of a company working in Russia. That is why there are agents who can link you with those companies. So, check with your host, and he refuses to register you we suggest you manage the registration on your own via agents to protect yourself from unexpected issues during your stay.
In case you have just arrived and do not have the registration yet, carry the ticket of the flight back and a boarding pass of the flight with you.

List of documents required to register you:
- a copy (and original, if necessary) of migration card;
- a copy of all the relevant pages of passport;
- a copy of visa (or other documents such as work permits, patent, etc. if available) and Fan ID (if you have it);
- if you have already stayed elsewhere in the Russian Federation, then the original notice of arrival at this place of stay with the registration mark.
